Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) are a unique partnership between patients, GPs and their practice that is essential to and results in high quality, responsive care.
View our PPG Network Terms of Reference.
PPGs are:
- Patients working with a practice to improve services
- Varied to suit local needs and;
- Based on cooperation
PPGs are made up of volunteers and staff from the practice, usually the Practice Manager and one or more GPs who meet every four to six weeks.
They meet to discuss how the practice is working; what is going well and what could be improved.
PPG members often request changes to the way the practice operates and carry out pieces of work to help improve patients' experience.
PPGs determine their own activities according to the needs of the community and the practice itself. Examples of the work PPGs have taken part in include changes to the phone and new appointment systems, patient surveys and the promotion of local health campaigns with Public Health. Members meet every four to six weeks and correspond via email in between meetings.
We facilitate a PPG network that brings together representatives of individual PPGs to share best practice, discuss how they can work together and discuss how they can support our workstreams.
